Bank Heist · The story

The tunnel collapsed. The vault door is the only way out.

Months of planning got your crew into the bank vault. Then the tunnel caved in behind you. Now the only exit is the vault door, the deposit boxes are wired to the police, and the sirens are an hour away.

In short: Bank Heist follows a crew who planned for months and tunnelled into a bank vault, only for the tunnel to collapse behind them. Among wired, empty and loaded deposit boxes, they have one hour to find the valuables and get out through the vault door before the sirens.

Robbing a bank takes months of planning and nerves of steel. Your crew had both. You chose your accomplices, scoped the building, clocked the security walkthroughs and lined up a getaway car.

Then came weeks of digging, until the tunnel finally broke through into the vault itself.

That’s when it gave way. The tunnel is gone, and the only route out is through the vault door, which turns out to be guarded by far more security than your plan allowed for.

The safe deposit boxes are the real problem. A few are crammed with cash, gold bullion and jewellery. Others are empty. Some are wired to raise the alarm the moment they’re touched.

You have one hour to find the boxes worth taking, leave the traps alone and break out before the police arrive. Pull it off and you’re set for life. Get it wrong and you leave in handcuffs.

Pull off the job of the century, or leave in handcuffs.

What to expect

Brass, marble and a lot of locked boxes

The Bank Heist vault is dressed like a grand old bank: an art deco vault door, rows of numbered deposit boxes, gold bars on the shelves and an alarm beacon waiting for a mistake.

  • Deposit boxes that pay out, boxes that are empty, and boxes that call the police
  • Keypads, combination dials and a vault door with its own mechanism
  • No crawling or tight spaces, despite the tunnel in the story
  • Rated 7 out of 10: the clues are easy to find and harder to use

Made by Escape This

A vault built from scratch

Bank Heist is an Escape This original. The company wrote the job, designed the deposit-box puzzles and built the vault, from the art deco door to the brass gears behind it, for its Hay Street Mall venue.

The current room is the rebuilt Bank Heist 2.0, and the gamesmasters who brief your crew run it every day, so they know exactly which box is about to trip the alarm.

FAQ

About the heist

What happens inside the Bank Heist escape room?

Bank Heist is a 60-minute adventure escape room at Escape This Perth CBD on Hay Street Mall. Your crew has tunnelled into a bank vault, the tunnel has collapsed, and you have an hour to raid the right safe deposit boxes and escape through the vault door before the police turn up.

Why can’t the crew just go back through the tunnel?

Because it caved in. In Bank Heist the tunnel your crew spent weeks digging collapses the moment you’re inside the vault, so the only way out is through the vault door and all the security the bank has wrapped around it.

What’s the catch with the safe deposit boxes?

Some of them are wired. In Bank Heist a few boxes hold cash, gold and jewels, others are empty, and some are rigged to alert the police if you open them. The job is working out which boxes are worth the risk.

Is this the new version of Bank Heist?

Yes. Escape This rebuilt the room and calls the current version Bank Heist 2.0. It keeps the original idea, a crew trapped inside a bank vault after their tunnel collapses, in an art deco vault with brass detailing and banks of deposit boxes.

Will heist movie fans enjoy Bank Heist?

They’re exactly who it was made for. Escape This lists action film fans, would-be bank robbers and even trainee police among Bank Heist’s natural audience. You get the vault door, the gold bars, the keypads and the ticking clock, and this time your crew is the one pulling the job.

Will Bank Heist frighten anyone, or is it all thrills?

No. Bank Heist is an adventure, not a horror room. The tension comes from the clock, the alarms and the sirens rather than frights. Lighting is moody, with some flashing and dark moments, but kids from 9 play it happily.

What does the inside of the Bank Heist vault look like?

Think 1920s bank, built to last. Bank Heist has a round art deco vault door with a brass mechanism, walls of numbered safe deposit boxes, marble finishes, gold bullion, jewellery on display and a red alarm beacon waiting to go off.

Can we dress up as bank robbers?

Go for it. Lots of crews arrive at Bank Heist in robber gear: stripes, beanies, eye masks, even a money bag. Dressing up is optional, so keep it comfortable and wear enclosed shoes.
